  8. Minutes of the User Connectivity Working Group (UCP)
  9.  
  10. The User Connectivity Problems Working Group met for one session this
  11. time.
  12.  
  13. The Group had previously defined a data structure that would enable
  14. Trouble Ticket handoffs between NOCs.  Paul Zawada had written an
  15. ASN.1-like description of the fields in this data structure.
  16.  
  17. Kaj Tesink drafted a document describing how some handoff fields could
  18. be represented in electronic mail messages.  The Group discussed this
  19. and agreed that the document needs to be revised to reflect more of the
  20. previously-defined handoff fields.  The goal is to allow trouble tickets
  21. to be mailed between NOCs both with and without internal trouble ticket
  22. systems.  The format should be simple enough to enable humans to enter
  23. the data and yet regular enough to permit parsing.  Paul and Kaj will
  24. work on this and get it out as an Internet-Draft.  At that time, several
  25. groups agreed to experiment with the exchange format and to create a
  26. template to facilitate manual participation.

  28. The UCP Internet-Draft on a Trouble Ticket Tracking System, originally
  29. written by Matt Mathis, had been discussed and revised heavily by the
  30. Group and it has now expired.  Dan Long has volunteered to draft a new
  31. version which reflects the current consensus of the Group.  This will
  32. also be published as an Internet-Draft.

  34. The Group also discussed the current status of various
  35. publicly-available internal Trouble Ticket systems:

  38.    o CONCERT Trouble Ticket System, ftp.concert.net:dist/tickets/* (uses
  39.      publicly-available database package).
  40.    o Help Desk Management System, ftp.delmarva.com:pub/hdms/HDMS.tar.Z
  41.      (requires Unify database package).
  42.    o JVNC's NETLOG Trouble Ticket System,
  43.      ftp.jvnc.net:pub/netlog-tt.tar.Z (requires no database package).
  44.    o NEARnet Trouble Ticket System, nic.near.net:
  45.      pub/nearnet-ticket-system-v1.3.tar (requires Informix database
  46.      package).
  47.    o UCP will meet again at the next IETF and plans to have new drafts
  48.      to discuss before then.
